Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue

Most brides are familiar with the poem, “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.”  Each item in this poem represents a good-luck token for the bride.  The saying goes that if the bride carries all of them on her wedding day, her marriage will be happy.  “Something old” symbolizes continuity with the bride’s family.  “Something borrowed” is an item from a happily married friend or family member, whose good fortune in marriage is supposed to carry over to the new bride.  As for blue, this color has been connected to weddings for centuries.  What four items did you have to represent the four lines from the poem on your wedding day?

Speaking of weddings, Blue Bunny ice cream is having a Something Blue Sweepstakes.  Share your favorite wedding proposal to be entered to win a second honeymoon.  Entries are accepted until April 16, 2012, good luck!

An Extra Day This Year

There is an extra day in February this year; it is Leap Year!  (One more day to eat ice cream!)  Every four years an additional day is added to the calendar in February to keep the calendar year synched with the seasonal years.  What to do with an extra day?  Are you going to do something special?  There may not be something distinctive that happens on Leap Day into a celebrated tradition with friends or family.  Do group activities together like playing board games, making a treat, go to an arcade or rent movies.  We are looking at it as an extra day to smile and laugh with friends and family; you should, too!
